DISBURSEMENT REPORT ON PERSONS WITH DISABILITY
Persons with Disability (PWDs) in Ghana are often regarded as unproductive and incapable of contributing positively to society. Instead of being viewed as assets and a part of society, they are seen as constituting an economic burden and irritation to their families and the society at large, leaving them with little or no help and sometimes continuous wallow in poverty. The Disability ACT also provides equal opportunity for PWDs and also made provisions for education, employment, vocational training, assistive devices, health and income generating activities.
The AbCMA had many people applying to benefit from the disability common fund out of which 21 applications were chosen.
The Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly (AbCMA) disburses items to PWDs through the Social Welfare and Community Development from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF). The aim of these disbursement is to empower PWDs by providing them with resources to improve their livelihoods in the Municipality.
The 21 beneficiaries were assisted in the following category;
• Support for businesses: some PWDs received items such as chest freezers, industrial sewing machine, food items, clothes and set of mechanical tools.
• Educational support: payment of school fees including those in special education, primary, secondary and tertiary level.
• Medical support: this includes assistive devices and payment of medical bills.
