A joint enforcement operation led by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, and carried out in the company of the Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma Central, Hon. Frank Nkansah, and the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has resulted in the shutdown of N. Nest Metal Company Ltd. and BlancoMet Recycling over the alleged purchase of stolen Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cables and other electrical equipment.
The operation was conducted at the Old Onion Market, Agbogbloshie, and selected recycling yards as part of sustained efforts to sanitise the enclave and dismantle criminal networks feeding on public infrastructure.
Speaking after the exercise, the Greater Accra Regional Minister explained that the visit formed part of the ongoing enforcement of earlier directives at Agbogbloshie, an area declared toxic and unsafe for human habitation. She disclosed that intelligence available to her office revealed that stolen streetlight cables and other ECG equipment—including meters, transformers and high-tension materials—were being sold through scrap markets and channelled to specific recycling yards for the extraction and trade of copper.
